The Business Excellence Framework focusses on strengthening business performance to ensure that business in the North of England are equipped for the challenges of an increasingly competitive and global market place. The purpose of the Business Excellence Framework is to create a community dedicated to product and service excellence. This will create an environment where ‘Made in Britain’ is a global hallmark of excellence. 
 
At the same time, it is important that individuals can demonstrate their skills level, for that reason only, all employees that complete a Business Excellence Framework programme will receive certification recognising their involvement.
 
If you wish to apply for formal recognition of your business excellence efforts, the following recognition marques are available.
 
Commitment Marque
Has completed the Business Excellence Framework, and has followed the action plan, successfully achieving the effectiveness and growth objectives set in the plan. The business identifies itself as a novice process improvement business and this is supported through external assessment.
 
Engagement Marque
Has completed 2 or more plan-do-check-act cycles and have successfully achieved the effectiveness and growth objectives set in the plans. Most of the techniques are used regularly, with managers and supervisors leading improvement initiatives. All employees understand the value and impact of process improvement, and actively participate in process improvements. The business identifies itself as a devotee process improvement business, and this is supported by external assessment.
 
Achievement Marque
Has completed 5 or more plan-do-check-act cycles and routinely delivers the effectiveness and growth objectives set in the plans. Process improvement is used routinely in all aspects of the business. Process improvement projects are led at the lowest practical level. All employees understand how their individual performance affects their team and how their team’s performance contributes to the achievement of overall business objectives. In addition, the business works with other businesses to guide and support them in developing systems. The business regards itself as a guru process improvement business, and this is supported by external assessment.
 
Excellence Marque
This is awarded when a business has effectively embedded process improvement techniques and can clearly demonstrate that the tools and techniques are pervasive in every part of the business operation. Employees are engaged and the business uses leadership and process improvement behaviour to identify candidates for succession planning. Process improvement is so ingrained that the business regards it as a way of life.
