Richard previously held a variety of Board and senior management roles during a 20 year career at a profit orientated clothing organisation. These roles were focussed upon customer service, customer focus, quality, operations, distribution, supply chain, and design. Richard was fundamental in the development of that organisation from £500K turnover with 10 staff in 1984 to £25M with 300 staff in 2003 and started to drive the concepts and principles of Excellence through the organisation from 1996.
Richard went on to lead the organisation to achieve:
Unisys/Management Today Service Excellence Award (2001)
North West Business Excellence Award (2000)
Brian Redhead Award (2000) (for services and support of the wider community)
Inside UK Enterprise Best New Host Award (2000)
In 2003, Richard was the lead assessor for two assessor teams for the North West Business Excellence Awards and in 2004 Richard supported Excellence North West by heading up the management and delivery of the Awards process.
Richard re-joined Excellence North West in April 2005 and is a fellow of the RSA (The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers &Commerce) and an associate Member of the CQI (Chartered Quality Institute)Pete Macartney

After spending the first part of his working life as a Chartered Civil Engineer, Pete moved into Quality Management in the mid 1980s. Working as a Quality System Manager first for United Utilities and North West Water and more recently for Bechtel, the American project management giant, Pete gained a wide experience of developing and implementing Management Systems and value adding internal process audit programmes. In 2001 and 2002 Pete was assigned to Bechtel’s corporate Six Sigma Black Belt programme.
Pete was first trained in use of the EFQM Excellence Model in 1994 and subsequently gained practical experience of the Model both within United Utilities and as a Lead Award Assessor first with Excellence North West and then as an Assessor for the UK Excellence Awards.
Pete joined Excellence North West in October 2004 to head up the North West Business Excellence Awards – now the North of England Business Excellence Awards – and is a Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute.
Dave Rusk

Dave Rusk is currently Education and Training Director for North of England Excellence.. After leaving university, Dave worked in the Financial Services industry for 25 years before joining what was then Excellence North West in 2000. During that time, Dave has been responsible for building up and delivering a portfolio of training and consultancy support to the membership.
Since 1995, Dave has been a Senior Assessor for the UK Quality Awards and has published several articles on Business Excellence and related topics. He is also in demand as a conference speaker.
He is married with 4 children and lives in Middleton, North Manchester. Apart from his family, Dave’s great passion is supporting Everton FC.
David Teale

David Teale joined Excellence North West in October 2006 and became Chief Executive of North of England Excellence in April 2007.
David’s career includes over 30 years working with the Manchester Airports Group in various Board roles including Managing Director, Manchester Airport Aviation Services and Chair Humberside Airport. David also led the teams that secured planning permission for and built Manchester’s Second Runway.
He is also Chair of Solutions SK, Chair of Parkway Green Housing Trust and a Non-Executive Director of the NHS Business Services Authority.
David is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development.
